Meet jess manton
Welcome — we are so glad you are here.

Hi, I am Jess, the founder of Jess Manton Specialist Education Services. I am an experienced literacy educator based in Port Macquarie.

I am passionate about supporting students who are building confidence and success in reading, spelling, writing, and senior English. I work with children from early primary through to Year 12, using evidence-based approaches that build essential skills with patience and care. I am also an accredited MSL Practitioner through the Australian Dyslexia Association.

Alongside me, we have a small team of dedicated educators who share the same commitment to structured, personalised learning support. Together, we offer calm, consistent sessions that help students grow their skills, confidence, and independence.

As a local mum of two young children, I understand how important it is to find someone you can trust with your child’s education. I created this service to offer families a place where they feel supported, heard, and empowered.

It is a real privilege to work alongside families, and we would love to welcome yours.

Meet Leisa Merrick
Hi, I am Leisa, an experienced primary educator and literacy intervention specialist here at Jess Manton Specialist Education Services.

I am a qualified primary school teacher and an accredited MSL Practitioner, with expertise in literacy intervention and supporting neurodivergent learners.
I am passionate about creating calm, supportive environments where young learners feel safe, build confidence, and find joy in reading and writing. I believe literacy should be enjoyable and accessible for all.

When I am not teaching, you will usually find me outside with a book and a cup of tea, practising yoga, or spending time with my family.

I currently provide 1:1 and semi-private literacy intervention sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, and I look forward to welcoming you.

Meet Claire Gerke
Hi, I’m Claire, an experienced secondary educator here at Jess Manton Specialist Education Services.
I have 40 years of experience teaching junior and senior English and Geography. I hold a Degree in Aboriginal Education, a Diploma of Secondary Education (English and Geography), and a Certificate in Religious Education.

I believe that for a child to learn, they must feel welcome and supported in a safe environment that nurtures them and builds their confidence, helping them achieve their own level of success.

I am passionate about supporting individuals, especially neurodivergent learners, and assisting senior students as they prepare for their Higher School Certificate. Creative writing is one of my special interests.

In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, swimming laps of the pool, reading, and completing all sorts of crafts.

Have you noticed your child displaying the following Behaviours?

Guesses words instead of sounding them out

Lacks strategies for tackling unfamiliar words

Avoids reading or writing tasks

Says things like 'I'm just not good at spelling'

Struggles to organise their ideas in writing

Performs below their potential in literacy tasks, despite strong thinking skills
If so, Jess Manton SES can help with our structured approach to literacy instruction.
