A Beginning sentence progression.

Subject + Action Verb

Ages 5–6 · Foundation

The foundation. Students learn that every sentence needs two parts: a subject and a verb. If either is missing, it's a fragment.

The first extension. Some verbs need an object — something the action is directed at — to express a complete idea.

Adding detail. Students learn that sentences can carry information about where and when the action happens — at the start or the end.
